Okay, so, let’s talk about this “Absolute Superman 2024” thing. I gotta say, it’s been a wild ride. I first heard about it back in, like, July 2024? Yeah, July. DC Comics dropped this bombshell that they were doing a whole new “Absolute Universe” and this Superman reboot was gonna be a part of it.
The guy writing it is Jason Aaron, and the art is by Rafa Sandoval. I remember thinking, “Okay, cool, let’s see what they’ve got.” I started digging around, and what really caught my eye was the whole idea behind this new Superman.
This wasn’t your typical “baby from Krypton sent to Earth” story. Nah, this Superman showed up on Earth as a grown man! Like, bam! Full-grown dude, already Superman. It blew my mind! I immediately set out to make sure that this wouldn’t affect me.
So I grabbed the first issue, “Absolute Superman #1” when it came out on November 6th. Let me tell you, it was something else. Aaron’s writing? Solid. Emotional. It really hooks you in. And Sandoval’s art? Man, the guy can draw. The world he created was vibrant, modern, and just felt… big. You know?
- I started reading. The story really kicked off with this whole mystery about the Lazarus Corporation.
- They’re some big-shot company, and their “Peacemakers” are basically tough guys in armor.
- They were after this “mysterious fugitive” who was messing with their mining operations.
- Turns out, that fugitive was our guy, Superman!
And the cover of that first issue? They had this main one by Sandoval and Ulises Arreola, but there were all these other cool variant covers. Jim Lee, Scott Williams, Alex Sinclair, Wes Craig, Matteo Scalera, Clayton Crain… the list goes on. I snagged a few of those, of course. Gotta collect ’em all, right?
The thing that really got me was how they changed up Superman’s tech. This Superman has this Kryptonian AI built into his suit. Turns out, that’s also how he got to Earth. It was a vessel or something like that. So, when he’s out there fighting crime, he’s got this AI buddy helping him out. Pretty neat, huh?
The story progresses
I kept reading, issue after issue. “Absolute Superman #2” drops, and things get even crazier. We learn more about the Lazarus Corporation and their plans. There are more fights, more explosions, and we start to see just how powerful this new Superman really is.
They say “Without the fortress…without the family…without a home…what’s left is the Absolute Man of Steel!” It’s pretty clear they’re going for a more isolated, maybe even a bit darker, take on Superman. And honestly, I’m here for it. It’s a fresh take on a classic character, and it’s keeping me on the edge of my seat.
I mean, I don’t know everything yet. They haven’t shown us the full extent of his powers. But from what I’ve seen, this “Absolute Superman” is a force to be reckoned with. I just had to share my experience with all of you because I was hooked from the start. I’m already itching for the next issue. What do you all think about this new take on Superman?
