Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “Aviation Gin Wolverine” thing pop up all over my social media feeds. You know, the one with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman? I figured, why not give it a shot? I mean, it’s two of my favorite actors, and I do enjoy a good cocktail now and then.
So, first things first, I grabbed a bottle of Aviation Gin. I’d actually never tried it before, but I’ve heard good things. The bottle itself is pretty cool looking, all sleek and art deco-ish.
Getting the Ingredients
Next, I looked up the actual recipe. I just searched online, and the top results all had the following:
- 1.5 oz Aviation Gin
- 1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
- 1 oz Pure Maple Syrup
- 1 Dash of Angostura Bitters
I already had lemons and maple syrup (the real stuff, not that fake pancake syrup!), so I just needed to pick up some bitters. Found those at the local liquor store, no problem.
Mixing It Up
Now for the fun part! I squeezed a fresh lemon, cause bottled lemon juice just doesn’t taste the same. I like a bit of lemon pulp, it is better, in my opinion.
Then I measured out everything. I don’t have a fancy jigger, so I just used a shot glass. The method is simple, I just put all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Then I shake it for about 30 seconds, and strain it into a glass.
The Taste Test
Honestly? It was pretty good! The gin itself is smooth, not too juniper-heavy. The lemon and maple syrup balanced each other out nicely, and the bitters added a little something extra. It wasn’t too sweet, which I appreciated. It was a little strong, I guess I poured a generous “ounce”! But overall, a really solid, refreshing drink.
I even garnished with a lemon twist, although I’m not sure if that’s part of the official recipe. I just like a little extra lemon.
My Verdict
Would I make it again? Definitely. It’s easy, tasty, and it’s got that cool factor thanks to the whole Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman connection. So yeah, I give the Aviation Gin Wolverine a thumbs up!
