Today I messed around with the magazine release on my Shadow 2. I’ve had this pistol for a while now, and I love how it shoots, but that darn mag release has always been a bit of a pain.
So, first, I tried to loosen it up a bit. I read somewhere online that you could bend one of the legs of the magazine catch spring inward, and that would do the trick. Sounded easy enough, right? Well, I did that, and at first, it seemed like it worked. The mags were releasing smoother. But then, I took it to the range, and bam! While I was shooting, the mags started dropping out on their own. They didn’t fall all the way out, but still, not cool.
Next, I noticed that sometimes the mags were getting stuck. This was happening with both the OEM mags and some MecGar ones I picked up. They’d bind on either the first or last 10% of the way, whether I was putting them in or taking them out. I thought maybe the internal catch was the issue, so I took the gun apart and did a little grinding on it. I was careful not to overdo it, just a tiny bit at a time. It helped a little, but the problem didn’t go away completely.
- Then I started to think about changing to a standard 75b release, I found some information from CGW’s website, but I’m not really sure if it fits. So I just left it there.
- And I also checked some guys saying that the intermittent FTE may be caused by lube or ammo choices, so I tried to clean and lubricate the gun, to ensure everything is alright.
Anyway, after all that messing around, I’m still not 100% happy with how the magazine release is working. I might have to take it to a gunsmith and see if they can work some magic. But for now, I’m just going to deal with it. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s definitely something I want to get sorted out eventually.
So, yeah, that’s my little adventure with the Shadow 2 magazine release. It wasn’t a total success, but I learned a few things along the way. Hopefully, this helps someone else out there who’s having similar issues.
