Okay, so I wanted to make a “Power of Love” short film, right? I’ve had this idea buzzing around in my head for ages, a simple story about how love can bloom in the most unexpected places. I’m no Spielberg, but I figured, why not give it a shot?
Getting Started
First things first, I needed a story. Nothing fancy, just a little meet-cute. I sketched out a basic idea: two people bumping into each other at a coffee shop, spilling coffee everywhere, and, well, you know… sparks fly. I scribbled down some dialogue, mostly cheesy stuff, but hey, it’s a rom-com short, right?
The “Tech”
Next, the “technical” side. I don’t have any fancy equipment, just my old phone. It shoots decent video, so I figured it would do the trick. For “lighting,” I decided to shoot during the day, near a big window to get that natural, soft light. No need for fancy reflectors or anything.
- Camera: My trusty phone.
- Sound: hoped to get a friend.
Finding Actors(Or Not…)
Then I needed actors.
My original plan was to just ask some friends but not find one. I needed a solution.
The Shoot
So,I make a bold choice.
I decided to use dolls to make it.
The shoot itself was… interesting. Holding the phone steady, trying to get the right angles, and trying to keep to do all things. It took a few takes to get each scene right (mostly because of me messing up), but we got it done.
The Painful Part-Edit
After the shoot came the editing. I downloaded a free video editing app on my phone and started piecing the clips together. It was a bit clunky, but I managed to add some titles and even some background music (royalty-free, of course!). It took longer than I expected, mostly because I kept changing my mind about the order of the scenes.
The Big Reveal
Finally, it was done! My little “Power of Love” short film. It’s definitely not winning any Oscars, but you know what? I made it. I had an idea, and I brought it to life, with my phone and a whole lot of trial and error. It’s rough around the edges, sure, but it’s mine. And that, my friends, is pretty cool.
Would I do it again? Probably. It was a fun little project, and I learned a lot. Maybe next time I’ll even invest in a tripod…
