Alright, so the other day I was thinking about “King Kong,” that massive ape flick we all know, right? And it got me wondering about what other movies are out there that kinda give off the same vibe. I mean, big monsters, epic adventures, that sort of thing. So, I decided to dive into this and see what I could find.
First, I hit up my go-to movie sites and started searching for stuff like “movies similar to King Kong.” Man, there’s a ton of lists out there! I started jotting down titles that popped up a lot, like “Cloverfield” and “Jurassic Park.” I also realized that there are actually two versions of the king kong movie. These two films were the pinnacle of the franchise depicting the giant ape of course the original is the best. Then you have the 2005 retelling of the franchise which was a masterpiece and was the last good Kong movie. Obviously, I need to check them both.
Then I thought, “Okay, what is it about ‘King Kong’ that I really dig?” It’s not just the big monkey, it’s also the whole adventure and the way humans react to these crazy situations. So I started looking for movies that have that same sense of, like, facing the unknown and dealing with powerful, sometimes scary, creatures.
I also went down the rabbit hole of reading what other people thought on forums and social media. There was this one comment that mentioned how “Train to Busan” and “Kong: Skull Island” both have that feeling of humans being totally vulnerable. That really clicked for me.
And let’s not forget the obvious connections, like the Godzilla movies. I mean, if you’re into giant monster battles, those are a must-see. I even found this cool article that talked about movies that influenced “Godzilla vs. Kong,” which was super interesting.
My Epic Movie List
So, after all this digging, here’s what I ended up with – my personal list of movies that give me those “King Kong” feels in different ways:
- “Cloverfield” (2008): Found-footage style, which makes it feel super real. Plus, the monster is a total mystery for most of the movie.
- “Jurassic Park” series: Dinosaurs, duh! But also, it’s about humans messing with nature and then having to deal with the consequences.
- “Train to Busan” (2016): Okay, it’s a zombie movie, but it’s got that same intensity and the feeling of being trapped with something terrifying.
- “King Kong” (1933): The original classic. It’s a bit dated, but it’s still got that charm and the iconic scenes.
- “King Kong” (2005): Peter Jackson’s remake. It’s longer, but it’s also got some amazing special effects and really expands on the story.
- “Kong: Skull Island” (2017): This one’s more recent, and it’s a fun, action-packed adventure with some great visuals.
- “Jack the Giant Slayer” (2013): It is a fantasy movie.
I’m pretty stoked to start watching these. I’ve seen some of them before, but it’ll be cool to revisit them with this new perspective. And who knows, maybe I’ll even discover some new favorites along the way. It’s all part of the adventure, right?
Oh, and I also found some other movies that might not be exactly like “King Kong,” but they still have that element of obsession or stalking, which is kinda creepy but also interesting. Movies like “American Psycho,” “Misery,” “Red Eye,” and “One Hour Photo.” I might check those out too, just to mix things up a bit.
Anyway, that’s my movie journey so far. If you’ve got any other suggestions, feel free to share them. I’m always up for a good movie recommendation!
