Hey everyone, it’s your boy here, back with another fun project! Today, I’ve been messing around with making comic book covers for bands. Sounds cool, right? Let me walk you through what I did.
So, first off, I started by digging around for some inspiration. I looked at real comic book covers to get the look and feel down. After some research online, I found some great ideas. Man, those artists back in the day really knew how to grab your attention with those bright colors and wild designs. I wanted that same vibe.

Next, I picked a few of my favorite bands. I thought, “Which bands would look awesome on a comic book cover?” I came up with a list, from classic rock to some newer groups. It was tough to narrow it down, but I managed.
After that, I started sketching. I’m no professional artist, but I gave it my best shot. I drew each band member in a dynamic pose, like they were superheroes or something. I used the bands’ looks and style to design their costumes. For example, if the band had a punk vibe, I gave them ripped clothes and spiky hair. If they were more glam, I went with flashy outfits and lots of glitter. It was a blast!
Once I was happy with the sketches, I inked them. This part was a bit tricky because I wanted those bold lines that make comic book art pop. I used a fine liner pen and tried to keep my hand steady. Some lines came out a bit wobbly, but hey, it adds character, right?
Then came the coloring. This was my favorite part! I used a bunch of different markers and colored pencils to bring the covers to life. I made sure to use bright, eye-catching colors. I also added some shading to give the drawings more depth. It took a while, but seeing the colors come together was so satisfying.
After coloring, I added some text. I thought about what a comic book title for each band might be. I came up with some cheesy, over-the-top names like “The Electric Knights of Rock” or “The Galactic Groovers.” I used a bold, comic-style font and added some speech bubbles and sound effects for extra flair.

Finally, I put it all together. I scanned the drawings into my computer and used a simple photo editing program to clean things up a bit. I adjusted the colors, fixed any smudges, and made sure everything looked just right.
Here’s how the final products turned out:
- One cover features a rock band as futuristic heroes, flying through space with their instruments.
- Another one has a pop group as magical girls, each with their own unique powers based on their personalities.
- And then there’s a metal band depicted as fierce warriors, battling a giant monster with their music.
It was a ton of work, but I had so much fun with this project. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of how these band comic book covers turned out. Plus, it gave me a whole new appreciation for comic book artists. Those guys are seriously talented! Anyway, hope you enjoyed this little peek into my creative process. Catch you all in the next post!
