Okay, so today I decided to dive into drawing Harley Quinn in a comic book style. I’ve always loved her chaotic energy and that classic comic book look, so I figured, why not give it a shot?
Getting Started
First things first, I needed some references. I grabbed a bunch of comic books and did some online image searches. I wanted a mix of classic Harley and some more modern takes on her design.
The Sketch
I started with a really rough sketch. Just basic shapes, you know? Circles for the head and body, lines for the limbs. Nothing fancy, just trying to get the pose right. I went with a dynamic pose, like she’s jumping or maybe getting ready to whack someone with her mallet.
- Blocked out the basic shapes.
- Fleshed out the limbs and body.
- Added the rough details of her costume – the jester hat, the diamond patterns, you get the idea.
Inking
Once I was happy with the sketch, I moved on to inking. This is where things get serious! I used a few different pens – a thicker one for the outlines and a thinner one for the details. It took some time, lots of steady hands and patience. There was some erase and retry, and I’m a little clumsy.
- I have outlined with black ink pen.
- I have focused on strong, bold lines.
- I have added details like facial expressions and costume folds.
Coloring
Now for the fun part – coloring! I wanted to stick with her classic red and black color scheme, but I also added some blue to make it pop. I used some markers for the base colors and then went in with colored pencils for shading and highlights.
- I have colored most clothes with red and black.
- I have added a little blue.
- I have blended the colors to have a little change.
The Final Touches
Lastly, I added some final touches. I cleaned up any stray lines, added some white highlights with a gel pen, and even drew a little speech bubble with a classic Harley Quinn quip.
And there you have it! My attempt at drawing Harley Quinn in a comic book style. It wasn’t perfect, but I had a blast doing it, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Might try drawing Poison Ivy next, who knows?
