So, I heard it was Donald Duck’s 90th anniversary, and I thought, “What the heck, let’s do something about it!” It all started on June 9th, 2024. I mean, the guy’s been around since 1934, and you know what? That’s the same year his debut film, The Wise Little Hen, came out. How cool is that? I decided to throw a little celebration of my own.
First thing I did was watch that old short, Donald Gets Drafted. That’s where they officially say it’s his birthday. I tell you, watching those old cartoons brings back memories. After that, I got digging around and found out that Disney was doing a whole bunch of stuff for Donald. They even released a new spot to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Donald’s debut. I watched that too, obviously. It was a nice little tribute to the magic behind that character. I gotta say, Disney really knows how to pull at your heartstrings.
But that wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to do something more, something… hands-on. So, I started doodling. I’m no Mark Henn, but I gave it my best shot. I tried to capture that classic Donald look. It was tough, but I think I did alright. I even tried to mimic that “Donald Ducking it” pose, you know, where he’s all dressed up on top but wearing nothing below the waist. It’s hilarious and iconic, right?
My Creative Process
- Watched: Started by watching some classic Donald Duck shorts, like Donald Gets Drafted and his debut film, The Wise Little Hen.
- Researched: Found out what Disney was doing for Donald’s 90th and watched their new tribute spot.
- Doodled: Tried my hand at drawing Donald, even attempting the famous “Donald Ducking it” pose.
- Reflected: Thought about how much Donald Duck has been a part of our lives and what he means to different people.
After all that drawing, I felt inspired. I started thinking about all the times Donald made me laugh or how he always seemed to get into the most ridiculous situations. I realized that he’s more than just a cartoon character. He’s like that grumpy uncle we all have, the one who complains a lot but deep down has a good heart. He may have his flaws, but we still love him anyway.
So, to wrap it all up, I made a little collage of all my drawings and put it up on my wall. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s my way of saying “Happy 90th, Donald!” You’ve been making us laugh for nine decades, and here’s to many more years of quacks and mishaps. And you know what they say, “There’s something about the duck” – and it’s true, there really is.
Oh, and I almost forgot! I even tried to imitate Donald’s voice, just like Tony Anselmo does. Let me tell you, it’s harder than it sounds! I ended up sounding more like a strangled cat than a duck, but hey, it was fun trying.
In the end, it was a pretty good day celebrating Donald Duck’s 90th. It made me appreciate all the joy and laughter he’s brought into our lives. And it was a good excuse to act a little silly and let my inner child out. After all, who doesn’t love a good cartoon duck, right?
