Okay, so, I’ve been on this kick lately, right? I decided I’m gonna start collecting physical Blu-Ray movies again. It’s kinda old school, but I like it. I grabbed this external USB 3.0 Blu-Ray burner thingy. The whole point is to rip these movies into a format that my Plex server can understand, you know?
So, I started digging around, trying to figure out the best way to do this. I’ve got this copy of “2001: A Space Odyssey” that I ripped from a 4K Blu-Ray. It looks amazing, super crisp, but here’s the thing, I realized each movie, each disc is like its own little puzzle.
I also found some software. There is this one called “AnyMP4 Blu-Ray Ripper”. It says that can convert Blu-rays into M4V, which sounds useful. I guess you can easily convert it on a Mac.
Music Collection
But it’s not just about movies. I’ve spent, like, the past year ripping my music collection to FLAC. It’s a bit of a pain, but the sound quality is totally worth it. I’m pretty happy with how that turned out.
DVDs and Blu-rays
Now, here’s where it gets a little embarrassing. I have a ton of DVDs and Blu-rays. I mean, a lot. They’re all stashed away in my attic. I usually just end up downloading copies of the movies I already own because it’s easier to stream them on Plex. I got lots of Blu-ray. So many that it’s a problem.
Kids and Scratches
- And to top it all off, I’ve got kids.
- You know how kids are.
- They got their hands on one of my favorite movies and, let’s just say, it ended up on a “rough surface.”
- Scratches everywhere.
So, yeah, that’s my little adventure. It’s been a learning experience, to say the least. Ripping Blu-rays, dealing with different formats, organizing everything, and trying to keep the discs safe from tiny humans. It’s a lot, but I’m getting there.
It’s a bit of a mess, but hey, that’s life, right?
