Okay, so I’ve been on this kick lately, trying to find movies that are like, you know, “Eyes Wide Shut.” That flick is just so unique, it’s tough to find anything that really compares. But I’m a sucker for that kind of dreamy, mysterious vibe, so I’ve been digging around.
First, I started by just googling “movies similar to Eyes Wide Shut.” That gave me a bunch of obvious choices, other Kubrick stuff mostly. I mean, yeah, “The Shining” and “A Clockwork Orange” are great, but I’ve seen them a million times. I was looking for something fresh, something I maybe hadn’t heard of before.
Then I moved on to Reddit. There are whole subreddits dedicated to movie suggestions, which is pretty cool. I scrolled through a bunch of threads, jotting down titles that sounded interesting. Lots of people were recommending stuff like “Mulholland Drive” and “Under the Skin,” which I’ve seen and liked, but still not quite what I was after.
I decided to get a little more specific. I started thinking about what it is I actually like about “Eyes Wide Shut.” It’s not just the mystery, it’s the whole atmosphere, the feeling that something’s not quite right, that there’s something hidden beneath the surface. It’s got this psychological thriller thing, mixed with the whole relationship part, right?
- So, I started searching for movies with those themes.
- I made a list: psychological thrillers, relationship dramas, movies with a dreamlike quality.
- Then, I looked up each title, watched some trailers, read a few reviews.
This is where it started to get interesting. I stumbled upon some lesser-known films that seemed to fit the bill. There’s this one called “The Double” which is based on a Dostoevsky story, and it looks really trippy and intense. Another one I found is “Enemy,” which also has this doppelganger theme. It is made by Denis Villeneuve. I’ve heard it’s pretty mind-bending, similar to his other film “Prisoners.”
I ended up making a list of about ten movies that I’m going to check out. It took a while, but I think it was worth it. I’m pretty excited to see if any of these films give me that same “Eyes Wide Shut” feeling. I’ll keep you guys posted!
