So, the other day I was thinking about what to watch with my kids during our family movie night. We had recently watched “Ice Age,” and they absolutely loved it! Naturally, they wanted more of that kind of fun, adventurous, and heartwarming stuff. I got on my computer and started my quest to find movies like “Ice Age.”
I began by searching for animated movies since that’s a big part of what makes “Ice Age” so appealing. I typed in things like “animated movies similar to Ice Age” and “family-friendly animated films.”
The first thing I did was look for movies from the same studio. I found out that “Ice Age” has a bunch of sequels! There’s “Ice Age: Continental Drift,” “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs,” and a few others. My kids hadn’t seen those yet, so that was an easy win. I added them to our list.
Next, I started looking for other animated movies that were made around the same time as “Ice Age.” I figured the technology and animation style would be somewhat similar. I found a few gems like “Shrek” and “Finding Nemo.” I remembered watching these when I was a bit younger, and I thought my kids would get a kick out of them too. These got added to the list as well.
Then I thought about the story elements that my kids loved in “Ice Age.” They really liked the humor, the adventure, and the heartwarming friendship between the main characters. So I started looking for movies with similar themes. I searched for things like “funny animated movies with animals” and “animated adventure movies.”
I stumbled upon some lists of “101 family movies” and started going through them. I recognized a few from my own childhood like “The Little Rascals,” “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” and “Matilda.” Those were definitely going on the list! They might not be animated, but they have that same fun and adventurous spirit.
I spent a good chunk of time browsing through different websites and reading summaries of various animated movies and family-friendly comedies. I made sure to check out what other parents were saying about these movies to make sure they were suitable for my kids.
After all that searching and digging, I finally had a solid list of movies that I thought my kids would enjoy. It was a mix of animated films and live-action comedies, all with a good dose of humor, adventure, and heartwarming moments.
Here’s what I ended up with:
- Ice Age Sequels: “Ice Age: Continental Drift,” “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs,” and others.
- Other Animated Classics: “Shrek,” “Finding Nemo,” “Monsters, Inc.”
- Live-Action Family Comedies: “The Little Rascals,” “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” “Matilda.”
I’m pretty excited about our upcoming movie nights now. I think we’ve got a great lineup that will keep us entertained for a while. Plus, it’s kind of fun to rediscover some of these classics from my own childhood. If you’re ever stuck on what to watch with your family, maybe give this method a try. It worked pretty well for me!
