Okay, so I’ve been getting into this whole “find movies similar to other movies” thing lately. It’s kind of a rabbit hole, but a fun one! Today, I wanted to find some flicks that give off the same vibe as “Grown Ups”. You know, that movie with Adam Sandler and his buddies, where they’re all grown up but still goofing around? Yeah, that one.
So, I started by just thinking about what makes “Grown Ups” “Grown Ups.” It’s got that whole friends-reuniting-and-reliving-the-good-old-days thing going on. Plus, it’s got that family element, with all the wives and kids in the mix. And, of course, it’s a comedy – a pretty silly one, at that. I figured I needed to focus on these elements.

I fired up the old computer and started digging. First, I made a list of some general search terms like “movies like Grown Ups”, “comedies about old friends”, “family reunion movies”, you get the idea. I wasn’t expecting too much, but I just start to try and find something useful.
Then, I tried to narrow it down. I thought about specific aspects of “Grown Ups” that I liked. For example, I really enjoyed the scenes where they’re all hanging out at the lake house. So, I searched for “movies with lake house setting” and “movies about summer vacation”. I also remembered that “Grown Ups” had a sequel, so I figured maybe some other movies like it would have sequels too.
After a while, I stumbled upon a few interesting titles. I found one called “Blended,” which is apparently another Adam Sandler movie, this time about a family vacation. That seemed promising. Then I saw “American Pie,” which is more about high school friends, but it has that whole “pact” thing that reminded me of the “Grown Ups” crew and their childhood promise. “Hotel Transylvania” was also recommended. Seemed a bit weird at first since it is animation but it has a similar cast. I guess I will give it a try.
- Blended: Family vacation comedy, might be worth checking out.
- American Pie: High school friends, a bit different but maybe similar humor.
- Hotel Transylvania: Involves most of the same cast, animation for younger viewers.
- Grown Ups 2: This one is simple, I should have thought about it earlier.
- Click: Also starred by Adam Sandler, it is said to be a classic.
I also learned that there’s a whole bunch of movies that are considered “R-rated comedies” that might fit the bill. Movies like “There’s Something About Mary” and “Superbad” were mentioned. Apparently, these movies push the boundaries a bit more with their humor, but they’re still comedies about friends and relationships.
Oh, and get this – apparently, there was a study in 2016 that said “Airplane!” is the funniest movie ever made. Not sure how they measured that, but it’s definitely on my list now!

So, yeah, that’s where I’m at now. I’ve got a decent list of movies to check out. I’m going to start with “Blended” and “Grown Ups 2”, and then maybe dive into some of those R-rated comedies. I know some of my friends also love “Grown Ups”, so I might even ask them for suggestions. It’s all about keeping that goofy, nostalgic vibe alive, right?
Anyway, that’s my little movie-finding adventure for today. I am so excited about it! If you’ve got any other suggestions, hit me up! Always looking for the next good laugh.
