Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Max, trying to figure out how to get off it by July 2024. It’s been a process, man, let me tell you.
Figuring Out My Usage
First thing I did was try to understand why I was using it so much. Like, was it boredom? Stress? Just plain habit? Turns out, it was a little bit of everything. I started keeping a little journal – nothing fancy, just a quick note on my phone whenever I felt the urge to use. I’d jot down what I was feeling, what I was doing, and how strong the urge was.
This helped me see patterns. For example, I noticed I’d reach for it most often when I was feeling overwhelmed at work or when I was just mindlessly scrolling before bed.
Finding Replacements
Once I had a better handle on why I was using, I started brainstorming other things I could do instead. This was kinda tough at first, because, let’s be real, nothing feels quite the same. But I made a list:
- Reading: I used to love reading, so I dug out some old books and started carrying one around with me.
- Exercise: Even just a quick walk around the block helped clear my head.
- Calling a friend: Sometimes just talking to someone made a huge difference.
- Working on a side project.I start to learn some basic front-end tech and write some html pages.
Setting Small Goals
I knew I couldn’t just quit cold turkey. That never works for me. So, I started setting small, achievable goals. Like, “I’ll only check it once today,” or “I’ll leave my phone in another room for an hour.”
It wasn’t always easy. Some days I totally failed. But I tried not to beat myself up about it. I just kept reminding myself of my July 2024 goal and kept trying.
The Gradual Wean
Slowly but surely, I started reducing my usage. I used that app timer thing to limit how much time I spent on it each day. I started with, like, an hour, then 45 minutes, then 30… you get the idea.
I replaced to using time with some other insterest things.
Celebrating Wins
Whenever I hit a goal, I made sure to celebrate. Nothing crazy, just something small to acknowledge the progress. Maybe I’d treat myself to a nice coffee or watch an episode of my favorite show. It helped keep me motivated.
It’s still a work in progress, but I’m feeling pretty good about hitting my July 2024 target. It’s not about perfection, it’s about progress. And every little step counts.
