Okay, so I heard about this Heroes Con Auction and, man, I just had to check it out. I’ve always been a huge comic book fan, and the idea of maybe snagging some original art or a rare collectible? Count me in!
First, I looked up Heroes Con online. Found their website, no problem. It was pretty straightforward. I looked for the auction information – dates, times, what kind of stuff they were expecting to have. I saw they had a preview of some of the items, which was cool. Gave me a chance to, you know, dream a little…and also to start figuring out a budget (which I promptly ignored, of course).
Next, I had to figure out how to actually get to the auction. It was being held at the convention center, thankfully I found the exact place. I checked out parking options – always a hassle, right? Made a mental note to get there early to snag a good spot.
The day of the auction finally arrived! I woke up early, super hyped, grabbed my coffee, and headed out. Got to the convention center, found parking (score!), and got in line. There were already a bunch of people there, all buzzing with excitement. It’s always fun to be around other people who are into the same stuff, you know?
Once inside, I registered for the auction and got my bidding paddle. That little piece of cardboard felt like a magic wand! I walked around the preview area, checking out all the amazing items. They had everything from original comic art pages to signed prints to vintage toys. I was seriously drooling over this one piece – an original sketch by one of my favorite artists. I knew right then and there, I had to try for it.
The Auction Begins!
The auctioneer started, and the energy in the room went up another notch. People were calling out bids, the auctioneer was rattling off numbers…it was intense! I watched a few items go, getting a feel for how things were going. Some stuff went for way more than I expected, other things seemed like a steal.
Then, my sketch came up. My heart was pounding! The bidding started, and I jumped in. It went back and forth, back and forth, with a couple of other bidders. My palms were sweating, I’m not gonna lie. Finally, it was down to me and one other person. We went back and forth a few more times, and then…the other person dropped out!
I’d won the sketch! paid for the sketch at checkout and got my sketch!
I walked out of that auction feeling like a million bucks. Sure, my wallet was a little lighter, but I had an amazing piece of art and a great story to tell. Totally worth it!
