So, I’ve been messing around with this whole “Flash Year One Annual” thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a ride. I wanted to get into The Flash comics, but where to start, right? After digging around online, a bunch of folks recommended starting with The Flash (2011) #0-12. It’s like a beginner’s guide or something called “Starting Line.” Seemed like a good place as any, so I dove right in.
First off, I grabbed The Flash (2011) #0. This issue is basically a crash course on The Flash’s origin story. It’s a quick read, but it gives you the gist of who Barry Allen is and how he got his powers. I read through this one pretty quickly, and it got me hooked, not gonna lie.
Next, I started reading through issues #1-12. These issues lay down the groundwork for the series, introducing some key characters and storylines. It’s like the foundation of a house, you know? You gotta have it before you build anything else. I spent a good chunk of time on these, taking it all in. There were some cool moments, some confusing ones, but overall, I was enjoying it.
After finishing #12, I saw some people online suggesting reading until #25. But here’s the kicker: #25 is a flashback that takes place before the earlier issues. But apparently, it’s better to read it after you’ve read the first 12. It’s like a puzzle piece that fits in later, I guess. So, I went ahead and read up to #25.
- Read The Flash (2011) #0: This was like a quick summary of The Flash’s origin story. Super helpful for a newbie like me.
- Read The Flash (2011) #1-12: These issues build the foundation of the series. Lots of character introductions and setting up the world of The Flash.
- Read up to The Flash (2011) #25: This includes that flashback issue, which was a bit out of order but made sense in the end.
I also stumbled upon something called “Year One” by Joshua Williamson. It’s a storyline within The Flash series, and it’s the twelfth arc in Williamson’s run. Sounds important, right? I haven’t gotten to it yet, but it’s on my list.
Then there’s The Flash Annual #1. People online are saying it’s a mix of good and bad news. Apparently, it sets up something called “Flash War,” which sounds pretty epic. I haven’t read this one either, but I’m curious to see what the fuss is about.
Oh, and I learned that Barry Allen, that’s The Flash, is a forensic scientist for the police. That’s a cool detail, adds another layer to his character. I also found out that there are some famous Flash stories by this guy named Waid. They’re called stuff like “Born to Run,” “Terminal Velocity,” and “Race Against Time.” I’ll probably check those out eventually.
So, yeah, that’s my journey so far with The Flash Year One Annual. I started with the recommended reading order, tackled the flashback issue, and now I’m looking forward to exploring more of this universe. It’s been a lot to take in, but I’m having a blast, and I figure it’s worth sharing my messy little adventure.
What’s Next?
Right now, I’m planning to read that “Year One” storyline by Williamson. And I definitely want to get to The Flash Annual #1 to see what this “Flash War” is all about. After that, maybe I’ll dive into those classic stories by Waid. I’m just taking it one step at a time, enjoying the ride. It’s like a marathon, not a sprint, right? Or maybe it’s more like a super-speed run, considering it’s The Flash… Anyway, I’m excited to see where this all goes.
