Okay, so the other day, my kids were begging to watch “Mrs. Doubtfire.” Again. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a classic, but I needed a break. I figured, there HAVE to be other movies out there with that same feel-good, family-friendly, slightly chaotic vibe. So, I started on a mission.
First, I brainstormed. I tried to remember other movies I’d seen that reminded me of “Mrs. Doubtfire”. You know, heartwarming stories with a bit of humor and maybe a dash of disguise or unexpected situations. I jotted down a few ideas, like “Liar Liar” and “Jumanji,”,just to get the ball rolling.
My “Movie-Like-Mrs-Doubtfire” Research Method
Then, I hit the internet. I simply typed a phrase on search engine, nothing fancy. I scrolled through the results, ignoring the stuff that looked too sappy or too wild.I looked for common themes, actors, and directors.
After that initial search, I started making a list. I divided movies by similar themes, like movies with goofy characters, or movies about families dealing with divorce or separation. I kept in mind of movies that, like Doubtfire, features a parent doing whatever it takes to be with their kids.
Finally, I narrowed down my list to a handful of movies that seemed like the best fit. I picked movies that:
- Had a good balance of humor and heart. I didn’t want anything too silly or too depressing.
- Were generally family-friendly. Meaning, nothing too scary or with too much adult content.
- Featured a strong family dynamic. Even if the family was going through a tough time, I wanted to see them come together.
- Had a parent charater doing all sorts of creative things.Just like a * kind of.
It took a bit of time, reading reviews and watching trailers, but I finally landed on a solid list. Now, instead of re-watching “Mrs. Doubtfire” for the hundredth time, we’ve got some fresh, fun options for family movie night! Mission accomplished.
