Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into this whole “Horizon: An American Saga” thing. You know, the Kevin Costner Western epic? It’s been a wild ride, to say the least.
First off, I started digging into what this whole thing was about. Turns out, Costner directed it and wrote it with a couple of other guys, Jon Baird and Mark Kasdan. It’s all about this Apache tribe, some settlers, and a whole bunch of other folks trying to make it in the Wild West. Sounds pretty standard, right? Well, it kinda is, but it’s also a bit of a mess. I read a few reviews and watched some interviews, starting to get a picture of the whole situation.
So I decided to watch Chapter 1, and honestly? It was… a lot. There’s just so much going on! Different storylines all over the place, and sometimes it was tough to keep up. Like, I was constantly asking myself, “Wait, who’s that again?” and “Where are we now?” It’s a real headache! Plus, the timelines were all jumbled up. One minute you’re here, the next you’re somewhere else, years later. It felt like I was going crazy sometimes.
And the biggest bummer? Costner himself is barely in it! I mean, it’s his project, you’d think he’d be front and center, right? But nope. He pops up here and there, but it’s not nearly enough, not the hero you expected. It was really disappointing. I thought it would be like his other big movies but it just wasn’t. It’s kind of a let down when you’re expecting the guy from “Dances with Wolves,” you know?
Then I found out that the first movie didn’t do so great at the box office. Costner even said that might be why they didn’t do a big theatrical release for the second one. Makes sense, I guess. I read some stuff about how he’s not even sure if he can finish Chapter 3 right now. He said something like, “I don’t know how I’m gonna make [Chapter 3] right now” at some film festival. I guess he spent his own money on this and now he is not really sure about it. But he still wants to finish the third one by next spring, so we’ll see what happens.
My Takeaway
- Lots of storylines: It’s like they threw everything but the kitchen sink into this movie.
- Confusing timelines: Seriously, bring a notepad to keep track of when things are happening.
- Where’s Costner?: He’s like a ghost in his own movie.
- Box office bomb: It didn’t perform well, so the sequels are up in the air, and probably it is affecting the quality of the movie and also the way it is going to be released.
All in all, it’s been a real experience diving into “Horizon.” It’s not what I expected, and it’s definitely got its flaws. But it’s also kind of fascinating to see how it all came together, or didn’t, depending on how you look at it. I will stay alert on what is going to happen with this saga. I might give Chapter 2 a shot, just to see where it goes. Maybe, just maybe, I will try to watch Chapter 1 again to see if I can grasp all the little details that I missed before.
