Okay, so, today I wanted to mess around with some comic book files, specifically CBR and CBZ ones. I’ve been really into this “Delicious in Dungeon” series lately – you know, the one about Laios, Marcille, and Chilchuck? Yeah, that one. It’s a fun fantasy story where they cook and eat monsters in a dungeon. Pretty unique, right?
So, I got my hands on some of these “Delicious in Dungeon” files, but I wasn’t really sure how to open them. I found out that CBZ files are basically just a bunch of images zipped together. My first thought was, “Okay, I can probably just unzip these CBZ files.” So, I tried using my regular unzipping program, and boom, it worked! I could see all the individual pages as image files. Neat!
Then, I tried to open these CBR files, and it was a little different. It’s similar to CBZ, but it’s compressed using a different method. I used some random programs but it didn’t work. I tried some random ways but they just didn’t work right.
But I remembered reading something about a thing called Soda PDF. It said it could handle both CBR and CBZ. I figured, why not give it a shot? I found it online. I just dragged one of my CBR files onto the Soda PDF shortcut I had made, and it opened right up! Nice! It worked like a charm. I could flip through the pages just like a real comic book.
- First: I tried to open CBZ files.
- Second: I tried to unzip the CBZ files with my computer’s unzipping program, and I could see the images.
- Third: I wanted to open CBR files, but had a bit of trouble at first.
- Fourth: I learned about Soda PDF, which can open CBR files.
- Fifth: I tried Soda PDF, and it worked great for opening and reading my CBR files.
I also did some digging and found this other program, Kindle Comic Converter. Apparently, it’s good for converting these comic files into a format that works on Kindles, since Kindles can’t read CBR or CBZ directly. I don’t have a Kindle, so I didn’t try it out. But I can see it being super helpful for people who read comics on their Kindles.
In Conclusion
Basically, today I learned how to deal with CBR and CBZ files. CBZ is easy, you can just unzip it. CBR needs a special program like Soda PDF. And if you’re a Kindle user, Kindle Comic Converter might be your best friend. It was a pretty productive day, I’d say. Now I can finally enjoy my “Delicious in Dungeon” comics! Hope this little experiment helps someone else out there!
