Okay, here’s my blog post about finding movies similar to “Blow”:
Alright, so the other day I was in the mood for a gritty, real-life crime drama, something like “Blow,” you know? That movie with Johnny Depp as George Jung, the dude who basically built the American cocaine market in the 70s. I loved the whole rise-and-fall story, the crazy parties, the danger… So I wanted more.
The Hunt Begins
First, I just straight-up Googled “movies like Blow”. Pretty basic, I know, but you gotta start somewhere, right? I got a bunch of lists, some obvious choices, some I’d never heard of. I made a note of a few that popped up a lot:
- American Gangster
- Scarface
- Goodfellas
- Casino
These were the big ones. I’d seen ’em all before, of course, multiple times. Good movies, classics, no doubt. But I was looking for something maybe a bit less…mainstream? Something I hadn’t seen a million times.
Digging Deeper
So, I started getting more specific with my searches. I tried stuff like “movies about drug trafficking 1970s” and “biopics about drug lords.” That started turning up some more interesting results. I also went on some movie forums, those places where people really nerd out about this stuff. They gave some awesome suggestions!
I started writing down a list, checking trailers on, seeing what looked good. Here’s some of what I found, and what I thought of them after digging into them.
- “The Infiltrator”: Looked cool. Bryan Cranston, undercover in the drug world. It was based on true story, which always adds something.
- “American Made”:This had that cool 70s/80s vibe.
- “Lord of War”:A bit out of my initial thought. But it has a similar vibe of getting into illegal market.
- “Savages”:This one was about a little Marijuana Business, I like it.
The Results (So Far!)
I haven’t watched all of these yet, it’s a work in progress! “The Infiltrator” was pretty good, definitely scratched that “Blow” itch to some extent. “American Made” was entertaining, lots of action, and a similar kind of crazy story.
I’m still working my way through the list. It’s a reminder that there’s always something new to discover, even when you think you’ve seen it all. And that, my friends, is the beauty of the internet and too much free time. I’ll probably update this as I watch more, so stay tuned!
