This here thing, Law and Order, it’s been on the TV forever, I tell ya. My old man used to watch it all the time. Now they got all these other shows, like it, but not it, you know what I mean? They call ’em spinoffs, I reckon.
Law and Order Spinoff for Short
That Law and Order, it started way back when, in 1990, I think. September 13, 1990, yeah, that’s what that paper said. Went on till 2010. That’s a long time for a TV show. Then they brought it back again later on. They just can’t quit it, I guess. It’s like that old dog that keeps comin’ back, no matter how many times you shoo it away.

And them spinoffs, there’s a whole bunch of ’em. They just keep comin’, like them weeds in my garden. You pull one out, and two more pop up in its place. It’s all that Dick Wolf fella’s doin’, I hear. He’s the one who cooked up this whole shebang.
- Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, they call it SVU for short. That one’s been on for, Lord, 25 seasons, I believe. It’s all about them, you know, nasty crimes. Real bad stuff. Makes my stomach churn sometimes, but I can’t help but watch.
- Then there’s Law & Order: Criminal Intent. That one’s about them detectives tryin’ to figure out why the bad guys do what they do. It’s like tryin’ to figure out why a chicken crosses the road, I reckon. You just never know.
- Law & Order: Trial by Jury. That one didn’t last too long, as I recall. It was mostly about the court stuff. Not as excitin’ as the others, if you ask me.
- Law & Order: LA. That’s the one out in California. Sunshine and palm trees and all that. Same kinda crimes, just a different place.
- Law & Order: True Crime. Now, this one here, it’s about real crimes. Things that actually happened. Scary stuff, I tell ya.
- Law & Order: Organized Crime. This is one of the newer ones. It’s about them big-time criminals, the ones who run them gangs and whatnot. Lots of shootin’ and carryin’ on in that one.
All these shows, they got that same feel to ’em. You got your cops, your lawyers, your bad guys. They chase ’em around, catch ’em, put ’em on trial. Same old, same old, but it keeps folks watchin’. They even got video games now, if you can believe that. My grandson, he plays ’em all the time. I don’t understand it, but he seems to enjoy it.
More About Law and Order Spinoffs
They say that SVU one, it’s the most popular. I guess folks like watchin’ them detectives, seein’ what they’re up to. They show their personal lives and all, how the job affects ’em. Makes ’em seem more real, I suppose. But some of them cases they show, they’re just awful. Hard to stomach sometimes.
Some folks, they like that original Law & Order best. Even though it’s been off for a while, and them new episodes ain’t as good, they say it’s better written. More grown-up, they say. I don’t know about all that. I just watch what’s on. All those episodes, that’s over a thousand, I reckon. That’s a lot of TV. There’s probably one on right now, somewhere. I don’t even need to see it from the start. It’s all just kind of the same thing over and over, and you can figure out what’s goin’ on.
They all got different names, these shows, but they’re all connected. It is like one big family, kinda like mine, only with more crime. Some of them even cross over. You’ll see them detectives from one show poppin’ up on another. It’s all a bit confusing, but I guess it keeps things interesting. They did that Chicago thing once, had all them Chicago shows crossing over, kinda like how they do it with Law and Order.

This whole Law and Order thing, it’s a big deal. It’s been around for ages, and it ain’t goin’ nowhere anytime soon. They’ll keep makin’ these shows as long as folks keep watchin’ ’em, I reckon. And folks will keep watchin’ ’em, ’cause there’s nothin’ else on, or they just like seein’ them bad guys get caught. It’s simple, but it works. Just like an old recipe, you don’t mess with it too much, and it always turns out alright.
