Alright, so, let’s talk about this whole “Manifest Destiny” comic thing I’ve been messing around with. First off, I stumbled upon this phrase, “Manifest Destiny.” Sounds kinda fancy, right? Turns out, it’s some old-school idea from back in the 1800s. Basically, some folks in the US thought it was their God-given right to just, you know, take over the whole continent.
I was like, “Whoa, that’s heavy.” And pretty messed up if you think about the people who were already living here, you know? So I got this idea to make a comic about it. I’m no artist, but I’ve been messing around with different styles, and Image Comics’ “Manifest Destiny” is killer. I dig the mystery, and the art is just, wow. It’s like eye candy. One day, I will collect some of their original art. That’s my big dream, anyway.
So, I started sketching. I wanted to show this idea of expansion, but also, like, the dark side of it. I drew these settlers heading west, but there are also shadows and hints of conflict with the native folks. It’s a tricky balance. The cover of Image Comics’ “Manifest Destiny” has been a big inspiration, as you can see the details.
Here’s What I Did:
- Brainstorming: Lots of scribbling, trying to get the ideas out of my head and onto paper.
- Research: Reading up on Manifest Destiny, getting the history right (or as right as I can).
- Sketching: Rough drawings, trying to figure out the characters and scenes.
- Inking: Making the lines cleaner, adding more detail.
- Coloring: This is the hardest part! I’m still experimenting with different palettes.
It’s been a real learning process. I’m not sure where it’s all going to end up. Maybe a full comic, maybe just a few pages. It is not that easy, you know? But I’m enjoying the ride. It’s a way to explore history, get creative, and maybe, just maybe, make something cool. And it’s also a way to remind myself and others that the past wasn’t always pretty, and we should learn from it, not repeat it. What we think is right might be wrong, and what we think is wrong might be right. We should not do something that we may regret in the future. Also, we should not take some land just because we think it is our right to do so. Anyway, that’s my little project. Hope you found it at least a little interesting!
