Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Max, trying to figure out how to get off it by July 2024. It’s been a process, let me tell you.
Phase 1: The Panic
First, I totally freaked out. I realized I was relying on Max way too much. Like, for everything. So, the first thing I did was just sit down and really think about all the stuff I was using it for.
Phase 2: The List
- Movies, obviously.
- Shows – tons of shows.
- Background noise while I work.
- Stuff for the kids to watch.
- Even just to have something on while I eat dinner!
I made a big, messy list. Seeing it all written out was kinda scary, but it also helped me see where I could start cutting back.
Phase 3: The Slow Wean
I knew I couldn’t go cold turkey. No way. So I started small.
- First, I picked one night a week where I wouldn’t watch anything on Max. Tuesdays became my “no Max” night. I read a book instead. It was rough at first, but I got used to it.
- Then, I started limiting how much I watched on other nights. Instead of, like, four episodes of something, I’d watch two. Baby steps, right?
- I found other things,I tried out some other streaming, and just used it sometimes.
Phase 4: Finding Alternatives
This was the fun part! I started looking for other things to do with my time. And some of the alternatives were free.
- I started going for walks after dinner.
- I dusted off my old guitar.
- I even started cooking more, which is something I used to love but hadn’t done in ages.
Phase 5: Feeling Good
Honestly, the best part of all of this is how much better I feel. I’m sleeping better, I have more energy, and I’m actually doing things I enjoy instead of just zoning out in front of the TV. It’s still a work in progress, but I’m feeling really good about getting to my July 2024 goal. And i did it.
