Alright, so, a while back I got hooked on this movie, “How to Train Your Dragon.” Seriously, that flick was awesome! The way they showed the bond between Hiccup and Toothless was just something else. It got me thinking, there’s gotta be more stuff like this out there, right? So I started digging around to find movies that give off the same vibe.
First off, I went straight to the internet ’cause, well, where else do you go these days? I typed in something like “movies similar to How to Train Your Dragon” into the search bar and boom! Tons of stuff popped up. I started sifting through the results, looking for anything that screamed “animated adventure with awesome creatures.”

Kung Fu Panda (2008)
I had already seen it, but it fits the bill. A clumsy panda becoming a kung fu master? That’s the kind of underdog story I’m looking for. Plus, the animation is top-notch.
Then, I decided to check out what the streaming sites had to offer. I looked through Netflix, Amazon, and even Disney+ for anything that looked similar. I mean, Hiccup’s all about making a chill place for dragons, so I figured there had to be movies about humans and creatures getting along, right?
Here’s what I ended up with:
-
This one site listed like twenty animated movies that they said were similar to “How to Train Your Dragon.” I started going through the list, checking out trailers and reading summaries to see if anything caught my eye.
-
Another thing I did was look for movies with killer visuals. “How to Train Your Dragon” is a visual treat, so I wanted something that would be just as awesome to look at.
-
I also paid attention to the whole “action” aspect. That dragon movie had some pretty epic action scenes, so I wanted something that could match that kind of excitement.
After all that searching, I ended up with a pretty sweet list of movies to check out. It wasn’t easy, but hey, it’s all about the journey, right? I’m stoked to dive into these movies and see if they live up to the hype. “How to Train Your Dragon” set the bar pretty high, but I’m hopeful I’ve found some worthy contenders.
