Alright, so, the other day I was just chilling, scrolling through my movie collection, and I had this sudden urge to rewatch “How to Train Your Dragon”. I mean, who doesn’t love Hiccup and Toothless, right? It’s such a classic!
But then, after watching it for like the hundredth time, I thought, “I need more movies like this in my life.” So, I decided to get to work and find some similar movies. I grabbed my laptop, sat down, opened my browser and start searching.
First Steps in My Search
First thing I did was to watch the third movie of “How to Train Your Dragon”, which called “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World”, directed by Dean DeBlois. It stars Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, and F. Murray Abraham. Man, that movie is awesome. It gave me an idea of what aspects I loved most – the adventure, the fantasy creatures, the heartwarming friendships, you know, the whole package.
After I watched it, I started listing down what I liked about “How to Train Your Dragon.” I figured this would help me narrow down my search. Here’s what I came up with:
- Fantasy Creatures: Dragons, obviously! But I love any movie with cool, mythical creatures.
- Adventure: I’m a sucker for a good adventure story, especially when the characters go on epic quests.
- Coming-of-Age: I enjoy stories where the main character grows and learns throughout the movie.
- Friendship: The bond between Hiccup and Toothless is just so great. I love movies with strong friendships.
- Animation: I’m a big fan of animated movies, especially ones with stunning visuals.
Digging Deeper
With my list in hand, I started searching online. I tried different combinations of keywords like “movies similar to How to Train Your Dragon,” “animated movies with dragons,” “fantasy adventure movies,” and so on. I spent hours reading through the lists and watching trailers. I added anything that looked promising to my watchlist.
I also looked into the people behind “How to Train Your Dragon.” I figured if I liked their style, I might like their other works too. I found out that Dean DeBlois, the director, also worked on “Lilo & Stitch.” I’ve seen that movie before and loved it, so that was a good sign!
