So, I heard that Marvel Comics is turning 85 this year. 85 years! That’s a pretty big deal, right? Naturally, they gotta do something special to celebrate. And they are! They are doing something I found really interesting – they’re releasing a bunch of variant covers, and some of them are homages to their classic stuff. As a long-time fan, I thought that was worth trying and exploring.
I started by digging around to see what they were planning. Turns out, they’re doing a series of these homage covers, starting in August. They’ve got some popular artists on board, like Elizabeth Torque, David Yardin, and Paco Medina. I recognized those names for sure, they’ve all done some pretty great work.
Then I went to figure out how to participate. What are these covers all about? Apparently, Marvel is trying to redraw history with these covers. Not changing the stories, mind you, but reimagining some iconic scenes or covers with a fresh look. I guess it’s a way to celebrate their legacy while also giving it a modern twist.
I tried to create some of them by myself. I am not a great artist, but I love to create. It is a good way to spend time with my kids.
- First, I got some paper and pencils, just to start. I thought, maybe I can try to recreate one of these covers myself? Just for fun, of course.
- Then, I decided to use some digital tools. There are tons of apps out there for digital drawing. I picked one that seemed easy enough to use and started experimenting. It was way different from using pencils, I can tell you that!
- After I got the hang of the digital tools, I started working on my own version of one of the covers. I’m not going to lie, it was tough. But it was also pretty fun to see my own take on a classic Marvel cover come to life.
- Finally, I asked my kid to join me, and it’s even more fun. He is a big fan of Spider-man. I printed out my works and he colored them. It feels so good.
And what’s cool is that Marvel is also releasing a special one-shot in August. I tried to see what that is all about, but for now, I am just happy to do some celebration myself. It’s all about celebrating this huge milestone for Marvel. I am no great artist, but it’s really interesting to see all the different ways they’re doing it. It makes me excited to be a Marvel fan, that’s for sure.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure into the world of Marvel’s 85th-anniversary homage covers. It was a nice way to connect with something I’ve loved since I was a kid. It was fun to try my hand at creating some art, too. Maybe you should give it a try, too! You never know, you might discover a hidden talent, or at least have some fun doing it.
