You know, I saw this movie, “The Help.” Reminded me of the old days, back when things were, well, different. Got me thinking ’bout other movies like The Help. Movies that make you think, you know? Make you feel somethin’ deep down in your gut. So, I figured, why not talk about some of ’em?
That “The Help,” it was somethin’ else. White ladies and their Black maids. Back then, it was just the way things were. Not sayin’ it was right, mind you. Just sayin’ it was like that. And there are other movies that show you that kinda thing. Show you how people can be good, how people can be bad, and how sometimes, folks just gotta stand up for what’s right. If you wanna find movies like The Help, just keep readin’.

I remember one movie, “Hidden Figures.” That one’s a good one. It’s about these Black women, smart as whips, workin’ for NASA. They were the brains behind some big space stuff, but nobody knew it. Just like in “The Help,” these women, they had it tough. But they kept on goin’, kept on workin’ hard. They showed everyone what they could do. That one’s definitely one of the good movies like The Help. You should watch it.
- “Hidden Figures,” that’s the one.
- Smart women doin’ big things.
- Just like “The Help,” shows you how things were.
Then there’s this other one, “Little Women.” Now, that one ain’t exactly like “The Help,” but it’s got that same kinda feel, you know? It’s about these sisters, growin’ up, tryin’ to find their way in the world. They got their struggles, just like anyone else. If you’re lookin’ for movies like The Help, you might like this one.
They gotta stick together, help each other out. Reminds me of how them maids in “The Help” looked out for each other. They were like a family, almost. “Little Women” is about family, too. Maybe not exactly the same kind of story but I think you can say it is movies like The Help.

There’s also one called “Soul Surfer.” It’s about this girl, a surfer, she loses her arm to a shark. But she don’t give up. She keeps on surfin’, keeps on livin’. It’s a true story, too. That’s what they say. It ain’t about race or nothin’ like that, but it’s about overcomin’ things, you know? Like them women in “The Help,” they had to overcome a lot of things, too. This girl, she’s strong. Just like them. So in a way, it is also one of the movies like The Help.
- “Soul Surfer,” that girl, she’s tough.
- Lost her arm, but kept on goin’.
- Just like them women in “The Help.”
And then, there’s this war movie, “Hacksaw Ridge.” Now that one’s real different, I reckon. Lots of fightin’ and all that. But it’s about this fella, he won’t carry a gun. He’s a medic, see? He just wants to help people. He ends up savin’ a whole bunch of soldiers, all by himself. It is a real movies like The Help that makes you cry.
He believed in somethin’, and he stuck to it, even when everyone else thought he was crazy. That takes guts. Just like that writer lady in “The Help,” writin’ that book about the maids. She believed in somethin’, too. She knew it was the right thing to do. Even though people gave her a hard time about it.

These movies, they all got somethin’ in common. They’re about people, regular folks, facin’ tough times. But they don’t give up. They keep on fightin’, keep on believin’. They show you that even when things are bad, there’s still good in the world. There’s still hope. If you ask me, these are all movies like The Help. They all got that same kinda spirit.
So if you liked “The Help,” you might like these other ones, too. They might make you cry, might make you laugh, might make you think. But they’ll definitely make you feel somethin’. And that’s what a good movie does, ain’t it? It makes you feel.
These are just a few that I can think of right now. There’s probably a whole bunch more out there. Movies about all kinds of things. But these ones, they stick with you. They stay in your head, in your heart. They remind you that even when things are tough, you gotta keep on goin’. You gotta keep on believin’ in somethin’. Just like them folks in “The Help.” They are the best movies like The Help. And that’s all I gotta say about that.
