Okay, so today, let’s dive into my latest obsession: “Absolute Jim Lee covers”.
It all started a few weeks ago. I was browsing a local comic shop, just killing time, when this huge, shiny book caught my eye. It was an Absolute edition, and the cover art? Pure Jim Lee goodness. I flipped through it and I was just blown away, man. I knew then that I gotta start collecting them. I immediately bought that one on the spot.
My Collection Journey
-
The First One: It was a Batman cover, I don’t remember the exact title. I saw it and I was totally amazed by the drawing skills. Detailed lines, dramatic shading, the whole nine yards. It felt like Batman was gonna jump right out of the page. Paid a pretty penny for it, but no regrets.
-
Scouring the Internet: After getting that first one, I was hooked. I started hitting up online shops, forums, you name it. It was tough, you know? These things are popular. Ended up messaging a bunch of sellers, comparing prices, all that jazz. Finally snagged a Superman one, still had that cool dust jacket on it.
-
Expanding the Collection: So now I’m on the hunt for more. I found out there’s a Wonder Woman one out there, drawn by Hayden Sherman, which is a must-have. And then some Superman stories drawn by Rafa Sandoval under Jason Aaron’s writing, gotta get my hands on those. This is turning into a real expensive hobby.
The Thrill of the Chase
I gotta say, the whole process is pretty exciting. It’s not just about owning these books, it’s about the hunt, the discovery, you know? And when you finally get one, it’s like, “Yes! Another one for the collection!”
I ended up spending quite a few evenings just admiring these covers. Jim Lee’s art is just so iconic. I even tried copying some of the art, just for fun. Let’s just say my stick figures don’t quite measure up to the master.
Anyway, that’s where I’m at with my Absolute Jim Lee covers journey. It’s a work in progress, but I’m loving every minute of it. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll have a whole shelf dedicated to these beauties. That’s the dream, right?
In 1998, I read from somewhere, Jim Lee sold WildStorm to DC Comics to focus more on illustration. That’s a good call, right? Otherwise, we might not have these amazing arts now.
If you guys have any tips or leads on where to find these covers, hit me up. Let’s talk comics! And remember keep your eyes peeled for those Absolute editions. They’re worth it, trust me.
