Okay, so I wanted to figure out what the RGB value for Trunks’ blue hair is. You know, from Dragon Ball? I’m doing some fan art, and I just couldn’t get the color right by eyeballing it. It bugged me so much!
First, I grabbed a bunch of screenshots from different episodes. I wanted to get a good average, you know? Since the lighting and animation style can change how the color looks. It is a hard work.
- Took a screenshot from the anime.
- Opened it in Photoshop.
- Used the color picker tool.
Then, I opened each screenshot in Photoshop. I’ve been using Photoshop for years, so this was the easy part. I zoomed in on Trunks’ hair in each image, trying to find a spot that wasn’t too bright from highlights or too dark from shadows. Just a nice, average blue.
Next, I used the eyedropper tool to sample the color. Photoshop gives you the RGB value right there, which is super convenient. I jotted down the RGB values for each screenshot in a little notepad file I had open. I felt like a real scientist, ha!
Analyze those RGB values
After I had a decent list of RGB values, I needed to figure out the average. So, I fired up the calculator app and started crunching some numbers. I added up all the red values, then all the green values, and then all the blue values. Finally got each one’s average value.
Then, I divided each of those sums by the number of screenshots I used. Simple math, but it took a bit of time to make sure I didn’t mess up. In the end, I got an average RGB value that looked pretty darn close to Trunks’ hair color.
Finally, I used this RGB value to create a new color swatch in Photoshop. Now I can use this for my fan art and know that I have the color just right. The result is pretty satisfying, the fan art looks cool. Maybe I should share it to other Dragon Ball fans, I hope they will like it!
It might seem like a lot of work just to get a color, but for me, these little details are super important when I’m creating fan art. Plus, it was kind of fun to do a little detective work and figure it out. Hope this has been helpful!
