Okay, here’s my blog post about diving into the Steven Universe comics:
So, I’ve been a huge fan of Steven Universe since, like, forever. The show just hits all the right notes – amazing characters, beautiful animation, and a story that’s both heartwarming and surprisingly deep. But when the show ended, I was left wanting more. That’s when I decided to check out the comics.
First thing I did was hit up my local comic book shop. I felt a little overwhelmed, to be honest. There were so many different series and issues! I asked the guy at the counter for some help, and he pointed me towards the 2017 run, which he said was a good starting point for someone who’d seen the show.
I grabbed the first trade paperback (which collects several issues into one book, so convenient!) and started reading. Right away, I was hooked. The art style was pretty faithful to the show, which was a big plus. It really felt like I was watching an extended episode.
The stories were cool, too! They weren’t just retreading old ground from the show. Instead, they were exploring little side stories and filling in some gaps. I remember one story where Steven and the Gems were dealing with a corrupted gem monster that was causing trouble at a local amusement park. It was fun, action-packed, and still had that classic Steven Universe charm.
- I went back to the store and I bought more volumes, and I’ve been slowly working my way through them.
- Some of the stories are one-offs, while others have longer arcs that span multiple issues.
- I’ve even started checking out some of the older series, like the 2014 run. The art style is a little different, but the stories are still great.
It is really a fantastic experience. I felt like I was back in that world again, hanging out with Steven, Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl.
It’s not exactly the same as watching a new episode, but it’s the next best thing. If you finish the show and you’re still craving more Steven Universe, check the comics, and you might like them.
