Okay, so today I messed around with this “on off film” thing. It sounded cool, and I wanted to see what it was all about.
Getting Started
First, I needed to, you know, actually get the film. I looked around a bit and found some, made sure to do all my reaserch on the correct stuff.
- Find a supplier:I had to look around a bit, some were out of stock and others had different types.
- Order the film:Made sure to get enough film for an area, I’m not rich so I had to make sure.
The Fun Part (Installation)
I’d watched a few videos online, so I felt kind of prepared. Turns out, it’s a bit trickier than it looks. My main tips here, patience, patience, patience!
- I prepped the window like crazy. Cleaned it, then cleaned it again. Any dust or dirt will mess things up, I used a gentle cleaner to do this.
- Then, I measured the film and cut it to size. I added a little extra on each side, just in case. Better to trim later than be short.
- Next, sprayed the window down with some soapy water mix I found out about on the internet.
- Then I peeled off the backing of the film and carefully put it on the wet window. This part was a bit stressful!
- Once it was on, I used a squeegee thing to push out all the water and bubbles.
Wiring it Up
Now this is where it gets a little technical, I had to be very careful here, because it involed electricity! I don’t really know about electrictiy so I had to find help for this bit.
- I connected the wires from the film to the power supply. Usually, there are little connectors that make this easy.
- Then, I plugged in the power supply and, fingers crossed, it worked!
The Result!
It worked! I could flip a switch, and the window would go from clear to frosted. Pretty neat! I’m not gonna lie, I felt super accomplished, even though it was a small project.
Would I do it again? Maybe! It was a fun little experiment, and now I have a window that can go from see-through to private with the flick of a switch.
