Yesterday, I stumbled upon this cool idea about starting a magazine called “Snowflakes”. I thought, “Why not?” So, I jumped right in.
First, I brainstormed what kind of content I wanted in it. I decided to focus on the LGBTQIA+ community since I saw there were printed editions of Snowflake Magazine, an LGBTQIA+ arts and literature quarterly. Then, I grabbed a notebook and jotted down a bunch of article ideas. I wrote about everything that came to mind, from personal stories to maybe some poetry and art.
Then, I thought about the design. I wanted it to look modern, clean, and eye-catching. I sketched out a few layouts and played around with different fonts and color schemes in a word document. I am not a designer, but I gave it my best shot.
Next, I started reaching out to people. I messaged some friends who are writers and artists, asking if they’d like to contribute. Surprisingly, a lot of them were interested.

Someone suggested I start a subscription service for the magazine, I like the idea of having readers receive a print edition directly.
-
I also looked into printing options. I called a few local print shops to get quotes and learn about paper types and stuff. It was overwhelming, but I got some decent information.
-
Then came the fun part – putting it all together! I spent hours compiling articles, editing them, and laying them out. I learned a lot about formatting and design along the way. It was tough, but seeing it come to life was rewarding.

Finally, I created a test print. It wasn’t perfect, but it was something tangible. I felt a real sense of accomplishment holding that first copy in my hands.
It’s still a work in progress, but I’m excited about where this project is heading. It’s been a wild ride so far, and I can’t wait to see the first official issue of “Snowflakes” out in the world!
