Alright, so I decided to tackle the “Sugar Hill Shorts” pattern. I’d seen a few versions popping up, and I was like, “Okay, I need some comfy shorts in my life.” Plus, I had this awesome fabric I’d been hoarding, and it was just begging to become shorts.
Getting Started
First, I printed out the pattern. Gotta love a good PDF pattern, am I right? Taping all those pages together is kinda therapeutic, in a weird way. Once that was done, I laid out my fabric and traced the pattern pieces. I double-checked, triple-checked, and then made my cuts.
Sewing it Up
The instructions were pretty straightforward. I started by sewing the front and back pieces together at the side seams. Then, I tackled the inseam. It was a bit tricky because there were curves and it had to be smooth, but I took my time and made it happen.
Next up was the waistband. I folded it over, pressed it with the iron (gotta love a crisp edge), and then sewed it to the shorts. I made sure to leave a little opening so I could thread the elastic through.
- Threading the elastic, that’s always a fun adventure. Safety pin to the rescue!
- Once the elastic was in, I sewed the opening closed and gave the waistband a final topstitch.
Finishing Touches
Almost there! I hemmed the bottom of the shorts, giving them a nice, clean finish. I pressed everything one last time, and… boom! Shorts! They fit great, they’re super comfy, and I’m pretty darn proud of myself. I’ll be wearing these all summer long, for sure!
