Today, I want to share my experience with filming the segment “They’re Creeping Up on You” from Creepshow. It’s been a wild ride, and I’ve learned so much along the way.
First off, I started by digging into the original 1982 film, Creepshow. It’s a classic with five separate stories, and “They’re Creeping Up on You” is one of them. The story is about Upson Pratt, a ruthless businessman who’s terrified of germs, living in this super clean, futuristic apartment.
To get the right vibe, I listened to John Harrison’s track, “They’re Creeping Up on You,” over and over. I even checked out the lyrics and music videos online, trying to soak in that creepy atmosphere. There is a lyric says,”Torn by the people you lost,They left a wound inside you,Shadows of the people you love,Are creeping in the room around you,They’re creepin’,They’re just creepin.” Oh man, that’s some seriously spooky stuff. I also found it on some Halloween and horror playlists on a music app. It really set the mood.
Then came the actual filming part. We wanted to capture that feeling of dread and claustrophobia that Upson Pratt experiences. We built a set that looked like a sterile, modern apartment. Everything was white and shiny, which made it feel even more unsettling when things started to go wrong.
The bugs, oh boy, the bugs. We used real cockroaches, which was pretty gross, but it added to the realism. Watching them crawl around was definitely not fun, but it made the shots look super intense.

The Hardest Part
The hardest part was probably getting the lighting right. We needed it to be bright enough to see everything, but also dark enough to create that creepy, shadowy atmosphere. We experimented a lot with different lighting setups until we found the perfect balance.
I also played around with some newer music, like Metro Boomin’s “Creepin’.” It’s got this soft, melancholy sound that I thought could add a modern twist to the classic horror vibe. There’s even a remix with The Weeknd, 21 Savage, and Diddy, which is pretty cool.
In the end, it all came together. The combination of the visuals, the music, and the overall atmosphere really captured the essence of “They’re Creeping Up on You.” It was a lot of work, but seeing the final product made it all worth it. I’m really proud of what we accomplished and hope you guys enjoy it too!
