Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into comic book art lately, and I stumbled upon this “Thor Bernie Wrightson” thing. I’d heard of Wrightson, of course, the master of horror, but I hadn’t really seen his take on Thor.
First, I googled some images. Just a quick search to get a feel for it. Wow. It’s not your typical superhero stuff. It’s all dark and moody, with tons of detail. Think Frankenstein, but with a hammer and a winged helmet.
Digging Deeper
After that initial look, I wanted more.I went to my local comic shop.
- Asked the owner:”Do you have old Thor comics, illustrated by Bernie Wrightson?”
- He points me to a dusty back-issue bin. “Check the ‘T’ section, might be some hidden gems there.”
Spent like an hour flipping through plastic sleeves. Found a couple of issues! They weren’t in perfect condition, but the art was all there. The covers looked amazing and dark.
Scanning and Sharing
Bought those issues. Took ’em home. Now, I wanted to share these with my online buddies. I have a decent scanner, nothing fancy, but it gets the job done.
Carefully scanned each page. Took my time, didn’t want to damage the comics. The paper felt so old!
Adjusted the brightness and contrast a bit in a photo editor. Just to make the art pop, you know? Nothing too crazy.
Final Thoughts
Uploaded the images to my blog. Wrote a little something about how cool and different Wrightson’s Thor is. It’s not all bright and shiny like the movies. It’s gritty, and kinda creepy, but in a good way.
It’s awesome to find these older comics and see a different take on a familiar character. Really makes you appreciate the artists who put their own spin on things.
