So, the other day I was messing around with Google Maps, you know, just exploring different places. And I thought, “Hey, let’s check out The Bronx!” I’ve heard so much about it, but I’ve never actually seen it, you know?
Zooming In and Out
First, I just typed “The Bronx” into the search bar. Boom! Google Maps takes me straight there. I started with the satellite view, because, well, it’s just cooler to see things from above. It looked like a vast, sprawling urban area, it is a densely populated place.
Then I started zooming in. I love doing this. You start seeing individual buildings, streets, even cars! It’s like being a giant, looking down at a miniature world.
I switched to the regular map view, the one with all the street names and labels. It is to get my bearings.
Street View Adventures
This is where things got really fun. I clicked on the little yellow “Street View” guy and dropped him onto a random street. And suddenly, I was there. I was virtually “standing” on a street in The Bronx.
- I “walked” around, looking at the buildings. The architecture there, row houses, apartment buildings, a few businesses.
- I even “looked” up and down the street, just like I would if I were actually there.
- I checked some restaurants’ rate, and it is good!
Finding Landmarks (and Pizza)
Of course, I had to check out some famous places. I used the search function within Google Maps to find Yankee Stadium. It is huge! I took a virtual “stroll” around the outside, pretending I was about to catch a game.
Then, because, let’s be real, exploring makes you hungry, I searched for “pizza near me” (even though I wasn’t really there). Google Maps showed me a bunch of options, and I even checked out some menus and reviews. Virtual window shopping, I guess!
After that, I found the Bronx Zoo, and spent a good chunk of time looking around. I found a cool museum, the museum is called “The Bronx Museum of the Arts”.
My Overall Impression
It’s amazing how much you can “see” and “experience” just by using Google Maps. I spent a good hour just exploring The Bronx, and I feel like I have a much better sense of what it’s like. Obviously, it’s not the same as actually being there, but it’s a pretty cool way to get a feel for a place you’ve never been. I will definately give The Bronx a visit in person!
