Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this “cartoon roots” thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster. I saw some cool artwork online and thought, “Hey, I wanna try that!” So, that is where it all begin.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed some pictures to work with.I grabbed some photos of trees with exposed roots – you know, the ones that look like they’re straight out of a fairytale? Then, I searched online looking for cartoon styles I liked.
- Searched for inspiration.
- Gathered reference photos.
- Decided on a general art style.
The Drawing Process
I opened up my drawing program – it’s nothing fancy, just something I’m comfortable with.I am not a professional artist,LOL.
I started by sketching out the basic shapes of the roots. This part was kinda tricky because I wanted them to look all twisty and gnarled, but also, like, cartoony, you know? It took a few tries to get it right,I have to say.
Once I was happy with the sketch, I went over it with darker lines, making everything look more defined. This is where the “cartoon” part really started to come in. I exaggerated some of the curves and made the roots look thicker and chunkier than they were in the photos.
Adding Color and Details
Coloring was the fun part! I picked some browns and greens – obviously – but I also threw in some purples and blues in the shadows to make it look more interesting.I didn’t want it to be the same old boring colors.
I added some little details, like leaves and vines growing around the * ,of course, some cute, big-eyed creatures peeking out from behind the roots. It’s all about adding a little extra, something make your drawing special.
The Final Touches
After all that, I stepped back and took a look. Something was missing… So, I added some highlights and shadows to make the roots look more 3D. I didn’t want it to look all flat and * I made sure the colors all looked good together.I think it is important to make sure everything looks cohesive.
And… that’s pretty much it! It wasn’t perfect, but I was pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s definitely something I’ll keep practicing. Maybe next time I’ll try adding a whole cartoon tree!
