Okay, so, “The Year of the Fox”. Sounds kinda cool, right? It all started last January, I decided to do something new with my life. You know, make some changes, set some goals. I got this idea to really learn something completely from the ground up.
So first, I brainstormed a bunch of different things I could try. I thought about learning a new language, picking up an instrument, but nothing really clicked. Then, out of nowhere, I got super interested in learning about different calendar systems. Don’t ask me why, it just happened. I stumbled upon this information about the Gregorian calendar, which is the one we all use. Turns out, it was named after Pope Gregory XIII, and it’s been around since 1582. That’s ancient!
But here’s where it gets interesting. I started to dig deeper. I was like, “Okay, if there’s a Gregorian calendar, what else is out there?” I read about lunar calendars, solar calendars, lunisolar calendars. It’s a whole world of timekeeping I never even knew existed! I spent hours just going down this rabbit hole, reading articles, and watching videos.
Then, I made a decision. I decided I was going to create my own calendar system. Not to replace the Gregorian one, but just for fun, you know? A little project to keep me busy. I called it “The Year of the Fox” because, well, I like foxes. They’re clever, cunning, and it just felt right.
- First I started drawing. I drew a bunch of circles on a huge piece of paper. These were going to be the months.
- Then I figured out the days. I decided each month would have 28 days, except for one special month that would have 29. Kind of like a leap year, but different.
- I also started to develop a backstory, like a whole mythology for this calendar. It was getting pretty involved, honestly.
I worked on this for the whole year, bit by bit. Some days I’d spend hours on it, other days I wouldn’t even touch it. I filled notebooks with ideas, calculations, and little doodles of foxes. I even made a spreadsheet to keep track of everything, with different columns for the days, weeks, months, and special events. It was a mess, but it was my mess.
By December, I had a pretty solid calendar system. It wasn’t perfect, but it was mine. I even printed out a few copies and gave them to my friends as a little New Year’s gift. They were confused, but also kind of impressed, I think.
So, that’s the story of “The Year of the Fox”. It was a wild ride, full of random facts, late-night scribbling, and a whole lot of fun. It might not be the most practical thing I’ve ever done, but hey, I learned a lot, and that’s what matters, right?
It just goes to show, you never know where a little curiosity will take you. Maybe next year I’ll tackle something even crazier. Who knows?
