Okay, so, today I wanted to mess around with something a little different, a little out there. I’ve always been kind of fascinated by the moon, you know? It’s just up there, looking all cool and mysterious. I got this idea to figure out when the first quarter moon happened back in June 2011. Don’t ask me why, I just felt like it.
First, I had to do some digging. It wasn’t like I could just look up at the sky and know, right? I mean, I needed the exact date. So, I went online, started poking around different websites. Honestly, it felt like a bit of a scavenger hunt.
I found some stuff about moon phases in general. Like, how the first quarter moon is when it’s halfway between a new moon and a full moon. It looks like a half-circle, one side lit up and the other in shadow. Pretty basic stuff, but a good refresher.
Then I found this bit about June 1st, 2011, being a new moon. That means the moon was basically invisible because it was too close to the sun. Not what I was looking for, but still good to know.
But here’s where it got interesting. I found a couple of sources saying that the first quarter moon for June 2011 was on the 9th. One said the moon was 7.74 days old that day and 55.49% illuminated. It even mentioned the moon was in Virgo, which is kind of neat if you’re into that sort of thing. It also mentioned that it happened halfway between the new moon and the full moon.

I also stumbled across this calendar thingy for June 2011. Apparently, the whole month started on a Wednesday. Who knew? And these websites had these little icons you could click on for each day to see the moon phase. It was kind of cool to see it all laid out like that.
There was even this table I found with a bunch of dates and times for all the moon phases in 2011, not just June. It was pretty detailed, with times in different time zones and everything. I didn’t really need all that, but it was kind of impressive.
So, yeah, after all that searching, I finally confirmed that the first quarter moon in June 2011 was on the 9th. It wasn’t exactly rocket science, but it was a fun little project. And hey, now I know something new about the moon. Maybe next time I’ll try to find out something even more obscure. Who knows?
This exploration was much more interesting. It just goes to show, you can find out pretty much anything if you just poke around a little. And hey, maybe next time you look up at the moon, you’ll think about this little adventure of mine. Or not. Either way, it was fun for me!
