Okay, so I was messing around with this movie, “Premonition,” and trying to figure out what the heck was going on. You know, the one with Sandra Bullock where her husband dies, but then he’s alive, and then he’s dead again? It’s a trip.
First Crack at Understanding
First, I watched the movie. Straight through. Just to get a feel for it. I was immediately confused, to be honest. The timeline is all jumbled up. One day her husband, Jim, is dead, the next he’s making breakfast like nothing happened. It’s wild.
Digging Deeper – The Timeline
So, I grabbed a pen and paper – old school, I know – and started making a timeline. I rewatched the movie, pausing like a maniac, and jotted down what happened on each day, as best as I could figure it out. Here’s what I ended up with, roughly:
- Sunday: Linda and Jim have a normal day, though Linda has a weird feeling.
- Monday: Linda wakes up.
- Tuesday: Linda wakes up.
- Wednesday: Linda wakes up.
- Thursday: Linda gets the news that Jim died in a car accident. Lots of family shows up.
- Friday: Linda is morning, finds Jim’s life insurance policy.
- Saturday: Jim’s funeral.
See? Messed up, right? It’s not linear. It’s like the days are shuffled.
Putting the Pieces Together
Then, I tried to make some sense out of it. Because it jumped around, and it was a real headache.
So she is experiencing the days out of order, experiencing her grief, and the events leading up to and following Jim’s death, in a non-chronological way. It’s a psychological thing, mixed with maybe a touch of the supernatural, I guess.
My Takeaway
After all that, I think “Premonition” is less about time travel or anything like that, and more about grief and how it can mess with your head. Linda’s mind is basically scrambling time as a way to cope with the trauma of losing Jim. Or, it is some “sign”, but the movie is more from Linda’s view, so… it is about grief.
It’s a pretty intense movie, and definitely makes you think. It’s not perfect, but it’s a good watch if you’re in the mood for something that will twist your brain a little.
