Okay, so I wanted to make some fun snacks for my kid’s playdate, and I had this idea to make goldfish-shaped crackers. I found this “goldfish cutter” online, and figured, why not give it a try?
First, I gathered all my ingredients for a basic cracker dough. Nothing fancy, just flour, water, a little bit of oil, and some salt. I mixed everything together in a big bowl until it formed a nice, smooth dough. It took a bit of kneading, but hey, that’s part of the fun, right?
Then, I rolled out the dough on a floured surface. I tried to get it pretty thin, like maybe an eighth of an inch? I wasn’t really measuring, just eyeballing it. The thinner the dough, the crispier the crackers, or so I hoped.
The Cutting Begins!
Now for the main event! I took my goldfish cutter and started pressing it into the dough. It was a little tricky at first. Some of the shapes didn’t come out perfectly, but I got the hang of it after a few tries. Tip: make sure to press down firmly!
- First batch: A few wonky fish, but mostly okay.
- Second batch: Much better! I was getting the hang of it.
- Third batch: Pro level! Perfect little goldfish.
I placed the cut-out goldfish shapes onto a baking sheet.I give a gentle push on the top with my fingertip. They were pretty close together, but I made sure they weren’t touching.
I popped the baking sheet into a preheated oven. I think I baked them for around 10-12 minutes, but I mostly just kept an eye on them until they were golden brown and looked crispy. You know, that perfect cracker color.
Once they were done, I took them out of the oven and let them cool on a wire rack. They smelled so good! And they were actually pretty cute, even the ones that were a little misshapen.
The kids loved them! They gobbled them up so fast. Success! It was a bit of work, but totally worth it to see those happy little faces. Plus, homemade crackers just taste better, don’t they?
