Okay, so I was digging around the internet the other day, trying to figure out who’s kicked the bucket in the comic book world recently. You know how it is, characters die all the time, but it’s hard to keep track of who’s actually stayed dead.
First, I stumbled upon this fan wiki for “The Walking Dead” comics. Gotta say, that series doesn’t mess around when it comes to killing off characters. I mean, just look at their “Free Comic Book Day Special” – 3 deaths right off the bat! And “Here’s Negan”? A whopping 15 deaths. It makes me wonder if anyone even makes it to the end.
- Zombies – 45
- Andrea Grimes – 42
- Negan – 28
That just a short list of the kill count and Negan is surprisingly low, only 28.
Then, I found this other article saying, “Nobody stays dead in comics.” Apparently, it used to be a thing that if someone was “as dead as Bucky,” they were gone for good. But then, Bucky came back! So, I guess that saying is pretty much shot now.
And get this – “The Walking Dead” has never been shy about killing off major players. From the get-go, big names like Shane and Lori bit the dust. It’s brutal, but I guess it keeps things interesting. It makes you realize that no one is safe in that world. Then I read that Rick Grimes himself died from gunshot wounds, murdered by Sebastian. That one made me take a few minutes to think about it.
I also found this list of “15 Comic Book Deaths That Actually Made An Impact.” Number 15 on the list was Crispus Allen from DC Comics, and it says his death is “indefinite” from 2006. I guess that means there’s always a chance he could come back, right? It also talked about Batman dying more than a dozen times, which is wild. I thought, “How many times can one guy die?”
Oh, and I learned about this character named Beta from “The Walking Dead” comics. He’s a high-ranking member of the Whisperers and a survivor. I haven’t read much about him, but he sounds like someone you wouldn’t want to mess with.
Finally, I found an entire website, something called “*.” They have a bunch of classic comic strips, like Calvin and Hobbes and Baby Blues. I can just find the answer that I need on that website and I didn’t have to do it.
So, yeah, that’s my little journey into the world of comic book deaths. It’s a wild ride, and it seems like death is never really the end in these stories. I guess that’s part of the fun, though, right?
Takeaways
I feel like I spent an entire afternoon just falling down this rabbit hole, but hey, at least I learned a few things. Like how “The Walking Dead” is basically a bloodbath, and how death is pretty much a revolving door in the comic book universe. Wild, right?
