Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another one of my little projects. Today, I want to talk about something I just got into: “Batman: The Long Halloween – The Last Halloween 1:100”. Yeah, it’s a mouthful, but trust me, it’s been a wild ride getting this comic in my hands.
So, first off, I heard about this sequel to the classic “The Long Halloween” and I was like, “Wait, what?” I’m a huge fan of the original story, which is this epic, 13-issue series from back in the ’90s. It’s got everything you want in a Batman story – mystery, a bunch of his classic enemies, and some seriously cool art by the late, great Tim Sale. RIP, man.
Anyway, I started looking into this “Last Halloween” thing. Apparently, Jeph Loeb, the writer of the original, decided to come back and do a sequel. That’s like hearing your favorite band from back in the day is getting back together. I was pumped!
I went on a hunt to find this comic. Let me tell you, getting a hold of this particular 1:100 variant cover was a mission in itself. I hit up a bunch of comic book stores, scoured online, and finally found one. It was like finding a needle in a haystack, but I was determined.
Once I got it, I dove right in. I have to say, it was pretty awesome to see all those familiar characters again. They do a good job of introducing them without it feeling forced. It’s like Loeb and Sale, even though he’s sadly passed, never missed a beat. I was feeling those vibes, no joke.
Reading through it, I appreciated how it captured the vibe of the original. The story kept me guessing, which is what I loved about “The Long Halloween”. It’s not just about Batman punching bad guys, but also about the whole mystery and drama unfolding around him. That is totally my vibe.
Things I noticed
- The art style. It’s a bit different since Tim Sale isn’t around anymore, but it still has that dark, noir feel that I love about “The Long Halloween”. I was feeling some of his vibe through it.
- The story. It’s got that same slow-burn, detective vibe, which I’m all about. It’s like every page you turn, you’re uncovering another piece of the puzzle. I’m always a sucker for that.
- The characters. Seeing all the usual suspects like Joker, Catwoman, and Two-Face was a real treat. It’s like hanging out with old friends, but, you know, the kind that might try to kill you. It felt like a party I didn’t want to end.
After finishing it, I spent some time just flipping through the pages again, soaking it all in. I even compared it to my old copies of “The Long Halloween”, just to see how it stacked up. It was a pretty cool experience, seeing how the story has evolved over time. It’s clear that it has been a well thought out and fun story.
In the end, I’m really glad I picked up this comic. It’s a nice addition to the “Long Halloween” saga, and it got me all nostalgic for those ’90s Batman vibes. If you’re a fan of the original, I definitely recommend checking it out. It’s a solid read, and it’s always nice to see more of that world. Catch you guys in the next one!
