Today, I was watching The Lion King again, and I started to think, why do stampedes happen? I mean, it’s such a big deal in the movie, right? Mufasa and all that… So, I decided to dig into it.
First, I grabbed my laptop and started searching. I just typed in “why do animals stampede” into the search bar. There were tons of articles, but most of them were pretty boring and full of big words. I just wanted a simple answer, you know?
After scrolling through a bunch of stuff, I finally found a couple of articles that made sense. They weren’t too complicated, and I could actually understand what they were saying.
Here’s what I found out, it’s actually pretty straightforward:
- Fear: This is the biggest one. When animals get scared, they run. And when one animal starts running, the others follow. It’s like a chain reaction.
- Predators: Obviously, if a lion or something is chasing a herd of wildebeest, they’re gonna book it. That’s a no-brainer.
- Noise: Loud noises can freak animals out. Think thunder, or in the movie, maybe the roar of another animal, and that can set them off.
- Protecting the Young: Moms and dads will do anything to protect their babies, and they can run like crazy when there’s a threat.
Putting It All Together
So, in The Lion King, it seems like a combination of things caused the stampede. Scar probably made some noise or did something to spook the wildebeest. Maybe he got a predator involved to help him out. They were in a narrow gorge, so there was no place to go but forward once they started running, and this amplified the whole thing, just like dominoes.
It’s actually pretty sad when you think about it. Those poor animals were just scared and trying to survive. I felt pretty bad for the wildebeest after figuring all this out. It definitely made the movie scene hit a little harder.
Anyway, that’s what I did today. It wasn’t a huge project, but it was interesting to learn something new. Maybe next time I’ll try to figure out why Scar is such a jerk. Just kidding… kind of. It is just a very interesting topic. It is fun to use my free time to do such things. I really enjoyed the process of exploration, although there was so much useless information that I almost gave up, but luckily, I kept going.
