Okay, so I’ve been wanting to mess around with some X-Men art, just for fun. I’m no pro, but I figured, why not? I started by grabbing some references online. You know, just Googling images of my favorite characters like Wolverine, Storm, and Cyclops. I wanted to get a feel for their classic looks and maybe some cool poses.
Then, I dusted off my old sketchbook. Yeah, I haven’t drawn in ages, but it felt good to have a pencil in my hand again. I started with some really rough sketches, just trying to get the basic shapes down. Don’t laugh, but my first Wolverine looked like a potato with claws. Seriously, it was bad.
Practice Makes… Less Awful?
- First, I did some simple shapes.
- Then I worked on getting the proportions right (or at least, righter).
- I added some details like muscles, costumes, and you know, FACES!
I spent a few hours just doodling, erasing, and re-drawing. It was a mess, honestly. But with each attempt, I felt like I was getting a little bit better. I even tried drawing Storm mid-flight, which was a total disaster at first. Her hair looked like a tangled bird’s nest, and her lightning bolts were more like squiggly lines.
After a while, though, I started to see some improvement. My lines got a little smoother, the proportions were a little less wonky, and the characters started to actually look like, well, characters. I even managed to draw a decent-looking Cyclops visor, which I was pretty proud of.
I even try some color with color pencil, it is not bad!
It’s definitely a work in progress, and I’m not going to be showing these sketches to any comic book artists anytime soon. But it was a fun way to spend an afternoon, and it reminded me how much I enjoy just creating something, even if it’s not perfect. Maybe I’ll keep practicing and see where it goes. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll actually be able to draw a Wolverine that doesn’t look like a mutated potato!
